Artistic Scholarship at Villa Decius 16.02.2022
Villa Decius will be visited by artists from Austria.
In 2022, as part of an Artistic Scholarship organized in partnership with the Consulate General of the Republic of Austria in Krakow, under the “On the Road Again” project, Villa Decius will be visited in September by Julia Goodman and Gabriele Edlbauer, artists working in duo, who are currently carrying out a project dedicated to the traditions of Galician cuisine. The result will be an artistic cook book in which Galician recipes will be connected with visual works of art.
“In order to stimulate cross-border cultural activities and reflection on today’s challenges, the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs in 2021 established, in partnership with the renowned Vienna association Künstlerhaus, the first global resident program in the history entitled “On the Road Again”. The Consulate General of Austria in Krakow is delighted to work with Villa Decius on this exciting program and is convinced that working with such an excellent local cultural institution will be a huge asset in the implementation of our projects,” - emphasized Philipp Charwath, Consul General of Austria in Krakow.

Julia Goodman
Julia Goodman (born in 1987 in New York) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 2020 and the New York University in 2009. Her works, through painting and sculpture gestures, examine narrative structures and emotional ambiguities. Familiar images, closely linked to memory – originating from popular culture, art history and the artist’s everyday life – are refined and clearly shaped by her material choices (which is a nod to the question of “bad” taste). She is interested in different materials, from oil to car paint, from jute to artificial fur, from clay and plaster to resins. She uses these materials to study the issue of representation and wonders what our attitude toward different objects and surfaces says about us.
Her selected exhibitions in Austria include: Galerie Raum mit Licht, Galerie 5020, VBKÖ, ksRoom, SCAG Contemporary, One Work Gallery, Pinacoteca and Fledermäuse. She took part in numerous international group exhibitions, including недалеко, Novo-Molokovo in Moscow, Queer Encounters / Vienna trans LA in Los Angeles, the Gap in Bratislava and SubDocumenta in the Athens Museum of Queer Arts.

Gabriele Edlbauer
Gabriele Edlbauer (born in 1988, Linz, Austria), graduated from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm in 2011, and in 2012 received a Master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where she currently works. She took part in numerous exhibitions in the country and abroad, i.a. at the Luleå Biennial in Sweden, the Austrian Cultural Forum in New York; her works were exhibited at the Luckman Gallery in the U.S., Dortmunder Kunstverein in Germany and the OK and Belvedere 21 galleries in Austria. She is a winner of several awards and scholarships, i.a. BA Mehrwertpreis (AUT), Sigrid Fridmans Fond (SWE), Startstipendium (AUT), Talentförderungsprämie (AUT) and Karl Anton Wolf Preis (AUT).
