Reinterpretation of Heritage 08.05.2023
We invite you to the online lecture on the art of Jerzy Nowosielski.
Please join us on 11.05. (Thursday) at 11.00 a.m. for the online meeting "Jerzy Nowosielski. In the sphere of the sacrum" moderated by Justyna Napiórkowska.
The forthcoming series of meetings will be devoted to selected aspects of Jerzy Nowosielski's work, including his paintings and monumental realisations. In particular, the theme of his works based on his multicultural upbringing and his inspiration and fascination with the philosophy of icons will be developed. The 100th anniversary of the birth of Jerzy Nowosielski, which falls in 2023, provides an opportunity to broaden the profile of the painter, draughtsman, stage designer, philosopher and Orthodox theologian, regarded as one of the most outstanding contemporary icon writers.
The oeuvre of this outstanding artist formed a coherent canon that linked East and West. Jerzy Nowosielski's way of perceiving reality originated from two sources, linked to the painter's family history. His father was a Uniate from Lemkivshchyna and his mother a Catholic. The artist was baptised in a Greek Catholic church, but brought up in the Orthodox tradition. He has creatively guided both these trends, while remaining faithful to tradition in certain matters. In this, among other things, lies the uniqueness of the Master.
Dr Justyna Napiórkowska, art historian and Europeanist, will talk about the reinterpretation of the legacy and art of Jerzy Nowosielski.
The series of online meetings devoted to the work of Jerzy Nowosielski will consist of three editions of lectures to be held on next Thursdays (11, 18 and 25 May).
Online meeting available in polish language on the Facebook channel of the Villa Decius Institute for Culture:
