Meeting with Aaiún Nin 05.07.2022
Premiere at the Milosz Festival.
We invite to the meeting with Aaiún Nin within the Milosz Festival on July 9, at 3 p.m.
At the Milosz Festival will take place an official premiere of the polish translation of the poetry book "Broken Halves of a Milky Sun" by Aaiún Nin.
Aaiún Nin is an Angolian poet and activists, who currently is a resident of the International Cities of Refuge Network ICORN at Villa Decius. Her poetry draws upon the experience of childhood and youth spent in a traditional, patriarchal community and is strongly rooted in the context of postcolonial Africa. In her poems she often refers to the present situation in Angola, addressing problems of sexual violence inflicted on women, religious fundamentalism and the contradictions of Catholic doctrine, social inequalities and racism.

“A queer song of emergency, this books floored me. Each poem is like a pound of flesh with a razor hidden inside. I’m here for the catholic paganism, the pain, the power, and the authority. Aaiún Nin’s writing is fearless, it’s in transit, and runs as if to catch up to language. These are hungry poems, constantly crossing the border between violence and desire. I will never forget the first time I heard them read. BROKEN HALVES OF A MILKY SUN is a testament to how great poetry can turn powerlessness into crushing, dazzling agency.”
