International Residency “Crossroads of Cultures” | Kraków + Ivano-Frankivsk (formerly Stanisławów)
The Willa Decjusza Culture Institute, as part of the reading-promotion programme “Tekstura”, in cooperation with the Centre of Polish Culture and European Dialogue in Ivano-Frankivsk, invites applications for the international residency “Crossroads of Cultures”.
Dates: 16 January – 8 February
Who can apply: writers, translators, literary critics, and cultural researchers (participants must have a legal possibility to stay both in Poland and in Ukraine)
Participants: 4 residents (planned selection: 2 from Ukraine and 2 from Poland)
What is the residency about?
The programme brings together artists and researchers from Ukraine and Poland to explore layered, often overlooked histories of two Galician cities. It focuses on Polish heritage in Ivano-Frankivsk and the Ukrainian cultural presence in Kraków, fostering dialogue and mutual understanding, and highlighting “quieter” historical layers that matter for a shared European memory.
Programme structure (3 stages):
weekly online meetings introducing the context and ideas of the programme
one week in Kraków: Polish-Ukrainian parallels through research institutions and museum collections
two weeks in Ivano-Frankivsk: archival research and public-facing activities, including urban explorations, an exhibition, and open discussions
The residency includes shared dinners, meetings, workshops, presentations, and visits to institutions working with memory, heritage, and multiculturalism.
Outcomes:
A collection of artistic, narrative, and research-based works (essays, reportage, visual and multimedia pieces), presented during a final public event (in both cities or jointly in Ivano-Frankivsk).
What we offer:
comfortable accommodation and coverage of basic costs (including local mobility)
organisational support throughout the research and creative process
access to experts in culture, memory, urban studies, and media
resources and materials for work (workspaces and, if needed, technical equipment)
translation and publication of the outcomes in Polish and Ukrainian
a public presentation of results and media promotion via partner networks
How to apply: fill in the form: https://forms.gle/5NJa8nh8eKQ3b7BK9
