Take part in a guide training course!
"The History of Villa Decius from the Times of Justus Decius to the Present Day" - guide training course
On 29-31 May 2023, we would like to invite you to a training course for the role of guides at the historic site addressed to people interested in cultural heritage, including the blind and people with visual impairments.
The aim of the training is to create opportunities for active participation in heritage interpretation, as well as to build awareness of the need to protect heritage sites and social involvement of people with disabilities. By participating in a programme held in a place with a rich history and tradition, participants will gain knowledge of architecture and art history, as well as the skills to guide visitors around historic buildings.
The classes are held in the grounds of the historic Villa Decius, a residence dating from the Renaissance period, located in Wola Justowska - today's district of Krakow, which was built in 1535 on the initiative of Justus Ludwik Decius, secretary to Sigismund the Old. Within the palace complex there are also two outbuildings: the Łaski House from the 17th century and the Erazm House from the early 21st century, surrounded by Decius Park.
The programme of the workshop includes the theoretical part: an introductory lecture on Renaissance art and culture with particular emphasis on the monuments of Krakow and Malopolska, a study walk to discuss the representative rooms of Villa Decius and the outbuilding known as the Łaski House, and a field lecture on the palace and park complex of Villa Decius.
On the basis of the materials provided and under the guidance of instructors, trainees will prepare their own individual sightseeing scenarios.
The practical part of the training includes a test guided tour accompanied by an instructor, and then at the end of the training each participant will guide one group of visitors around Villa Decius' palace-park complex.
At the end of the training, participants receive certificates. Thanks to the knowledge and experience gained in interpreting the historic space, the trainees will be able to become involved in making Villa Decius accessible to the general public and will be able to take on the role of a guide guiding a tour of the historic site according to an interpretation prepared by themselves.
Participation is free of charge. The number of places is limited.
Applications and additional questions should be sent to: kasia@willadecjusza.pl
The training is taking place as part of a grant project entitled: 'The history of Villa Decius from the time of Justus Decius to the present day', implemented as part of the 'Culture without barriers' project, co-financed by the European Union as part of the European Social Fund.
