Conference "Objective: HERITAGE" is behind us 26.04.2022
On April 21, at the Villa Decius a conference entitled “Objective: HERITAGE. Protection of cultural property - Polish responses to the current challenges" was held.
On April 21, at Villa Decius, a conference entitled "PURPOSE: HERITAGE. Protection of cultural property - Polish responses to current challenges" was held. The aim of the conference was primarily to create a space for a conversation about the protection of cultural heritage in the context of current events in Ukraine and the presentation of the results of the two-year project entitled “Cross-sectoral challenges: specialist in the protection of cultural property in the event of a crisis and war – development of a postgraduate studies program dedicated to employees operating on the border between various fields” implemented in the years 2020-2022, as the subject of cooperation between the Villa Decius Association in Krakow, the Naval Academy in Gdynia and the Villa Decius Institute for Culture in Krakow.
The conference program covered such topics as: humanitarian and international law, the duties of administrators and managers of monuments, rescue conservation issues or plans for the protection of monuments and the preparation of facilities and personnel dealing with them to face threats and challenges. In the opening panel entitled "Protection of cultural property - Polish responses to current challenges in Ukraine" was attended by: Monika Bogdanowska, National Heritage Institute, Lilia Onyszczenko, Director of the Historical Environment Protection Board of the Lviv City Council, Michał Krasucki, Capital Conservator of Monuments, Robert Piaskowski, Plenipotentiary of the Mayor of Krakow for Culture .
In her short speech, Lilia Onyszczenko, referring to current events in Ukraine, said:
"February 24 changed us forever, the morning of that day began with an alarm, meaning the bombing of many cities in Ukraine [...], the phone rang all the time, no one really believed that such a situation could take place in the 21st century, in Central Europe"
Complementing the statements of his predecessors, the Capital Conservator of Monuments, Michał Krasucki, emphasized:
"Each time of crisis shows that when a crisis occurs, it turns out that structures and prepared systems count less and less, and people count more and more."
In the next part of the conference, project coordinators: Marta Szuniewicz-Stępień, Ph.D. AMW, Katarzyna Górlaczyk IKWD, Ph.D. UPJP2 and Aleksandra Szymańska-Niekłań, VDA presented the postgraduate program in the field of protection of cultural property in the event of a crisis and war. The comprehensive postgraduate program will be implemented in a hybrid form by the Naval Academy in Gdynia and the Villa Decius Institute for Culture.
In the second part of the day, there was a session of individual speeches, during which they gave speeches, among others prof. Kamil Zeidler, University of Gdańsk, prof. Kazimierz Lankosz, Jagiellonian University, Krzysztof Sałaciński, President of the Polish Blue Shield Committee, Lt. Jan Sabiniarz, NATO Civil-Military Celebration Center of Excellence, brig. Rafał Czaja, State Fire Service in Krakow and senior captain. Artur Luzar, State Fire Service in Krakow.
A day later, on April 22, a workshop was held: "Monument protection plan in the event of a crisis and armed conflict" - theory and practice ", conducted by Katarzyna Góralczyk and Krzysztof T. Kociołek.

The aim of the project is to develop a new field of postgraduate studies.
The European Economic Area (EEA) funds are jointly financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, contributions of which are based on their GDP. The funds for 2014–2021 amount to EUR 1,55 billion, and the priority areas for action in this period include: innovation, social integration, culture, properties, management as well as education and competitiveness.
