Visit Marcelina – Open Day

On the first Sunday of October, we invite you to Villa Decius for the final edition of this year’s “Visit Marcelina” – an event that brings together history, art, education, and an openness to diversity.

The autumn edition will take the form of an Open Day, during which the interiors of the Villa and its history will be accessible to everyone – regardless of age, language, or background. The program is designed with a wide range of audiences in mind – from the youngest visitors to adults, families, Ukrainian and sign language speakers, as well as those who wish to explore emotional sensitivity and care for their mental well-being.
Visit Marcelina – Open Day at Villa Decius
5 October 2025 | Villa Decius, Kraków

On the first Sunday of October, we invite you to Villa Decius for the final edition of this year’s Visit Marcelina – an event that brings together history, art, education, and openness to diversity.

The autumn edition will take the form of an Open Day, during which the interiors and the story of the Villa will be open to all – regardless of age, language, or experience. The program has been prepared with different audiences in mind – children and adults, families, Ukrainian- and sign-language speakers, as well as those who wish to care for their emotional well-being.

It will be a day of connection, historical exploration, and community building – rooted in openness and care.

The guiding figure of the event will be Princess Marcelina Czartoryska – a patriot, philanthropist, founder of the Kraków Patriotic Salon, gifted pianist, student and friend of Frédéric Chopin, and owner of Villa Decius from 1869 to 1894. Czartoryska created one of Kraków’s most celebrated musical salons at the Villa, hosting aristocrats and leading figures from the worlds of art, science, literature, and youth. She was highly regarded as an interpreter of Chopin’s works, having studied with the composer in her youth in Paris. Renowned artists of the time – including Delacroix, Mickiewicz, Liszt, and Rubinstein – considered Marcelina Czartoryska one of the most faithful and masterful interpreters of Chopin’s music. She also collected a vast number of Chopin-related artifacts, some of which she commissioned and others likely acquired at auctions following the composer’s death. A significant part of her collection was donated to the Czartoryski Museum in Kraków.
