Ars Poetica Norvegica. An Evening of Norwegian Poetry at Villa Decius
What does Norwegian poetry sound like in Polish? Join us at Villa Decius for an evening bringing together words, music and the art of translation. On Thursday, 24 September, we will explore poems by Norwegian writers and meet Ariel Rosé for a conversation about literature that crosses language boundaries.
Norwegian prose enjoys a wide readership in Poland. Its poetry remains less familiar — and this evening offers a chance to discover it for the first time or deepen an existing interest.
SWPS University and Villa Decius invite you to “Ars Poetica Norvegica”, an evening of literature and music exploring the diversity of Norwegian poetry. The programme features works by Petter Dass, Rolf Jacobsen, Pål Brekke, Stein Mehren, Olav H. Hauge and Gunnar Wærness, among others. Musical interludes will accompany the readings, offering moments to pause and reflect.
Poetry, translation and conversation
Our guest will be Ariel Rosé — poet, essayist, illustrator and translator, who will read poems in his own translations. In conversation with Dr Paweł Szkołut of SWPS University, he will introduce the audience to Norwegian poets and their work.
The remaining poems, translated into Polish by Dr Paweł Szkołut, will be read by Łukasz Stawarczyk, an actor at the Stary Theatre.
Whether poetry is already part of your life or you are just beginning to explore it, you are warmly welcome. All you need is curiosity and a willingness to spend a little time listening.
