Visit Marcelina! Multicultural Open Day at Villa Decius 31.08.2025
Multicultural Open Day at Villa Decius
Visit Marcelina!

We invite you to a day full of multicultural encounters, family attractions, and artistic experiences. From a detective walk for the youngest, through artistic mosaic workshops, a Japanese tea ceremony, and a concert by the Japanese Musicians Association, to the finissage of the exhibition “Pearl of the Renaissance in the Wola Landscape”.
In response to Kraków’s multicultural fabric, the events will be held in Polish, English, and Ukrainian. We want every Kraków resident, including non-Polish speakers, to be able to fully participate - regardless of age or background.
The main theme of the event will be the figure of Duchess Marcelina Czartoryska - patriot and philanthropist, creator of the Kraków Patriotic Salon, talented pianist, student, and friend of Fryderyk Chopin, as well as the owner of Villa Decius from 1869 to 1894. Marcelina Czartoryska created in Villa Decius one of the most famous music salons in Kraków, hosting aristocracy and the most outstanding figures from the artistic, scientific, and literary worlds, as well as young people. She was a highly respected performer of Chopin’s works, having studied piano with him in Paris in her youth. Prominent artists of the era - including Delacroix, Mickiewicz, Liszt, and Rubinstein - considered Marcelina Czartoryska an exceptional interpreter of Chopin’s works, admiring her artistry and faithful devotion to the master’s style. She also amassed a rich collection of Chopin memorabilia - some commissioned directly from artists, others likely purchased at an auction of the composer’s possessions after his death. She donated a significant part of this collection to the Czartoryski Museum in Kraków.
Programme includes:
