Swiatłana Cichanouska in Krakow 04.10.2022
On 2 October we had the honor of hosting in Villa Decius a representative of the Belarusian opposition, a presidential candidate in the presidential elections in 2020, Sviatlana Cichanouska, who met with representatives of the Villa Decius Association, the City of Kraków, the Jagiellonian University, Krakow cultural institutions and the Belarusian diaspora.
It was no coincidence that Villa Decius - municipal cultural institution - was chosen for the venue of the meeting with Swiatłana Cichanouska. For many years at Villa Decius we have been trying to support the democratic opposition in Belarus—we organize the Multicultural Festival, inviting belarussian artists, at our international conferences performed, among others, Stanisław Szuszkiewicz and Alaksandr Milinkiewicz, as part of the ICORN program we hosted Lawon Barszczuski, Andrej Chadanowicz and Vladimir Nekliaev. We honored Alaksandr Milinkevich and the Center for the Defense of Human Rights “Wiasna” with the Sérgio Vieira de Mello Award. This year, during the several days long Culture in Exile event, we also presented the art and culture of Belarusian artists who belong to the Belarusian opposition.
