Every September, Mexico celebrates Día de la Independencia, or Independence Day. This event is not only a reminder of the historical significance of the struggle for freedom, but also a manifestation of the national pride, culture and identity that have shaped the country for centuries. It all began in 1810, when, in the small village of Dolores, the priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, calling for a fight against the Spanish regime, uttered the famous words: ‘Grito de Dolores’ - the cry of Dolores. It was a watershed moment that marked the beginning of Mexico's 11-year war of independence, which ended in 1821 with the signing of the Treaty of Córdoba. Although he died during the fighting, Hidalgo became a symbol of the quest for freedom and independence. In his honour, the traditional Dolores shout is raised every year on Independence Day, evoking the memory of the beginnings of an independent Mexico.

GRITO DE INDPENCIA! VIVA MEXICO!
