Kaleidoscope of 20th century music 17.11.2024
We invite you to the piano concert at Villa Decius.
On Sunday 17 November at 5 p.m., we would like to invite you to another of our series of historical concerts. During the recital ‘Kaleidoscope of 20th Century Music’, pianist Marcin Koziak will present selected works by Anton Webern, George Gershwin, Benjamin Britten, Roman Palester, Samuel Barber, Olivier Messiaen, John Cage and Arvo Part.
After the concert, we invite you to a conversation with Marcin Koziak, who will talk about the music of the composers whose music will resound during the concert, their style and work, and the social situation in which the authors of the works lived, often influencing the character of the works. One example will be the work of Roman Palester, which will be the starting point for outlining the situation of piano music creators working in forced exile. Among the new phenomena in piano music, appearing in the period under discussion, the avant-garde will be mentioned, as well as changes occurring in the hitherto structures of musical works, and even silence, from which physical sounds emerge, and metaphysical silence, which can be found, among others, in the works of such composers as John Cage and Arvo Part.
