Oliwia Haelterlein - Homines Urbani 2026

(b. 1986) studied Slavic studies as well as comparative literature, cultural studies, film studies, and theatre studies in Salzburg, Kraków, and Berlin, as well as creative writing at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig. In 2025, she was a fellow of the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg in the field of literature, and from January to March 2026 she is in residence as part of the Atelier Mondial programme at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. In 2020, her essay “Das Jungfernhäutchen gibt es nicht” (Maro Verlag) was published. In 2026, she published her debut novel “Wir Töchter” (C.H. Beck), for which she received the Bayern 2 Wortspiele award. Her participatory reading-writing project CÓRKOWOŚĆ and the live radio play “Die Stimmen der Töchter” address themes of origin, hereditary traits, and multilingualism.

I would like to write a lyrical essay—one that touches on my current main interests: daughterhood, multilingualism, origins, the ‘transitional mind,’ and an archaic chorus of foremothers.”
