Beyond Borders at Villa Decius – another international residency project in Kraków 13.03.2026

Villa Decius once again becomes a space for international artistic collaboration. From 18 to 23 May 2026, Kraków will host a residency as part of the Beyond Borders project—an interdisciplinary initiative combining physical theatre, choreography, voice work, and contemporary performance practices. The programme is organised by Instabili Vaganti and the Italian Institute of Culture in Kraków, in cooperation with the Villa Decius Institute for Culture.
The Beyond Borders project reinforces what has long been at the heart of Villa Decius’s mission: creating conditions for people from different backgrounds, countries, and artistic traditions to meet and work together. The residency in Kraków will be not only an intensive creative process, but also a space for exchanging experiences, building relationships, and developing new forms of collaboration across the borders of language, culture, and artistic disciplines.

Actors, performers, dancers, and choreographers interested in collaborative work, experimentation, and participation in an international creative process are invited to apply. The programme takes the form of professional, advanced training combined with conceptual and performative work. The residency will culminate in a public performance on 23 May 2026.

The central theme of the residency is the notion of the border—understood not only in geographical or political terms, but also as a social, cultural, linguistic, and internal concept. Participants will jointly explore the border as a site of tension, but also of encounter, dialogue, and creative transgression. It is precisely this dimension that makes Beyond Borders so closely aligned with the mission of Villa Decius as a place open to diversity, collaboration, and the shared search for new languages of understanding.

The Beyond Borders residency is another example of the initiatives through which Villa Decius continues to serve as an important centre for international artistic mobility and intercultural dialogue. For years, the Villa Decius Institute for Culture has been developing residency programmes that connect the local with the European and global circulation of culture, inviting artists and creators to Kraków whose work emerges at the intersection of different experiences, perspectives, and practices.

The collaboration with international partners within the Beyond Borders project confirms that Villa Decius is a place where art becomes a tool for encounter, and residency a catalyst for new ideas, relationships, and joint initiatives. It is another step in building a programme that not only supports artistic development, but also strengthens international networks of cooperation and opens Kraków to vibrant, contemporary artistic dialogue.
