As part of the “Visit Marcelina” series, a literary meeting was held with Alicja Zioło – author of the book Krakowianki. Continuation. The conversation was moderated by Dr. hab. Dominika Kasprowicz, Professor at the Jagiellonian University and Director of Villa Decius.
On Sunday, 21 September 2025, Villa Decius once again became a space for dialogue around literature, history, and the identity of the city. As part of the “Visit Marcelina” series, a literary meeting was held with Alicja Zioło – author of the book Krakowianki. Continuation, certified guide, activist, and recipient of the Krakow UNESCO City of Literature Award.
The conversation, moderated by Dr. hab. Dominika Kasprowicz, Professor at the Jagiellonian University and Director of the Villa Decius Institute of Culture, offered a unique opportunity to reflect on the role of women in Krakow's history and on the ways in which stories and memory shape contemporary understandings of heritage. The discussion centered on herstory, marginalized voices, and narratives that have helped build the city with just as much strength as the histories of more widely recognized figures.
The meeting brought together a large group of participants – residents of Krakow, enthusiasts of local history, and literature lovers. (At the same time, children of some participants were able to take part in a detective walk with Pani Fishka and join artistic mosaic workshops – creative activities inspired by the loggia of Villa Decius.)
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for their presence, questions, conversations, and for sharing time together in a space that has for centuries served as a place for the exchange of ideas and the cultivation of European humanist values.
This event was organized as part of the project “Stories. Wola Justowska – Yesterday and Today,” co-financed by the Polish History Museum in Warsaw as part of the "Patriotism of Tomorrow" programme.
