Airport Library opening 07.12.2022

Another edition of the Multicultural Library
As part of the annual Multicultural Library campaign, initiated three years ago by the Villa Decius Institute for Culture and the Krakow Library, this year a mini-library was set up in cooperation with Krakow Airport to make the time in the departure hall of the Krakow airport more pleasant for the passengers.

The self-service bookshelf will have books for children and adults, which can be used by travelers waiting for their plane. This year, the books for this purpose were donated by the Library of Krakow and the Krakow consulates that have been working with Villa Decius on the Multicultural Library for Krakowians for several years: the Consulate General of Hungary in Krakow, the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Krakow, the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Krakow, the Consulate General of the USA in Krakow, the Consulate General of the Slovak Republic in Krakow, and the Consulate General of the Kingdom of Spain in Krakow.

The official opening of the Airport Library took place on December 6th at the Krakow airport. The meeting was attended by the Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany - Michael Groß, the Consul General of Hungary - Tibor Gerencsér, the Director of the Villa Decius Institute for Culture - Dominika Kasprowicz, and the Director of the Krakow Library - Agnieszka Staniszewska-Mól, who handed over the collected books to Radoslaw Wloszek - President of the Board of Directors of Krakow Airport. This year, the campaign collected dozens of titles in Polish, English, Spanish, French, German, Hungarian, Slovak, Norwegian and Bulgarian.

During the three years of the Multicultural Library campaign, more than a dozen foreign consulates, Krakow cultural institutions and publishers collaborated on the project. During this time, more than 500 titles have been collected and made available to Krakow's Polish- and foreign-language readers.
