As part of the New Sounds series, the artist will present a programme of short musical stories exploring the diverse sonic possibilities of the vibraphone.
Tymon Kosma belongs to the young generation of the Polish jazz scene. In his playing, he combines technical skill with sensitivity to timbre and the resonance of sound. For him, jazz is a starting point for experimenting with the instrument and searching for his own musical language.
The vibraphone is a melodic percussion instrument whose metal bars are set into vibration with mallets. It makes it possible to create both distinct rhythmic structures and expansive harmonies, as well as delicate melodic lines. Kosma draws on this diversity, giving the instrument an expression close to that of the human voice. His performances are also marked by stage freedom and the direct joy of making music.
The artist co-creates Kosmonauci, a band combining jazz with influences from hip-hop, drum and bass, and improvisation. In 2024, the group released its debut album, “Sorry, nie tu.” The vibraphone is an important element of the band’s sound, alongside saxophone, bass, and drums.
Another of Kosma’s bands is Product May Contain, co-created with double bassist Filip Botor and percussionist Mateusz Borgiel. The trio received the 2026 Fryderyk Award in the category Phonographic Debut of the Year – Jazz. Kosma also performs in Michał Aftyka’s quintet and collaborates with Paulina Przybysz, with whom he recorded the album “Insides,” released in 2025.
During the concert at Strzelnica na Woli, the vibraphone will take on the role of the main narrator. The repertoire consists of short musical stories based on contrasts between simplicity and complexity. Sparse motifs will be juxtaposed with more elaborate passages, and subtle sounds with expressive rhythms.
The programme offers a chance to discover how a single instrument can build tension, carry a melody, and transform the character of a musical statement. It is a proposal both for audiences following Tymon Kosma’s work and for those interested in discovering the contemporary jazz scene.
