New Sounds | Kuba Derej Solo at Strzelnica na Woli
Following the warmly received concert of Hania Derej, Strzelnica na Woli will once again welcome the musical talent of the Derej family. This time, as part of the New Sounds concert series, we invite you to a solo performance by Kuba Derej – a young pianist and composer who has already made his mark on the Polish music scene as an outstanding interpreter, improviser and creator.
Kuba Derej Solo is a concert combining classical sensitivity, the atmosphere of illustrative music and the freedom of jazz. Alongside his original compositions, the audience will hear live improvisations and unique jazz interpretations of well-known classical themes. It will be a musical journey across the boundaries of styles – full of emotion, subtle sounds and impressive technical virtuosity.
Jakub Derej (born in 2008) is a pianist and composer specialising in classical, jazz and illustrative music. He is the recipient of dozens of awards and distinctions at national and international competitions. He has received scholarships from the Prime Minister of Poland, the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (twice), the National Fund for Children and the Santander Bank Polska Foundation. He has also been honoured with awards from the Mayors of Bielsko-Biała and Tychy. In 2026, he became a finalist of the Young Musician of the Year competition organised by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the National Institute of Music and Dance, and TVP Kultura.
At the age of 13, he made his debut as a soloist with the Lviv Chamber Orchestra. Between 2021 and 2026, he performed with Adam Sztaba’s orchestras, appearing at venues and events including the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój, the Krzysztof Penderecki European Music Centre in Lusławice, the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, the Pomeranian Philharmonic in Bydgoszcz, and the Szczecin Philharmonic, where he received second prize in the national Edu Virtuoso composition competition.
