On Sunday, March 30th, at 5:30 PM, we invite you to Villa Decius for the interactive performance "MINIMUM DECAY" by Kenyan artist Ondiso Madete.

The performance is the result of the artist’s three-month residency at Villa Decius as part of the Arts in Exile program.

This 45-minute performance will unfold across three different spaces within Villa Decius. Each space will be associated with a specific emotion, exploring and reflecting on the experience of migration and the process of building connections.

"Forced displacement as an existential source of decay is the central theme of my project, which examines the bonds formed by displaced individuals. I am one of them, and Villa Decius, as a space for exploring this experience, has been a place of comfort and safety for me—free from excessive distractions, yet filled with new friendships," says Ondiso Madete. "I want the audience to experience the world through my connection with Kraków, its people, and its spaces. I use songs, guitar loops, singing, dance, poetry, visual elements, and sculptures to create a multisensory and interactive performance. My hope is that participants will leave with new tools to connect with the world, nature, other people, and themselves."

Ondiso Madete is a multidisciplinary artist from Kenya, currently based in Finland. At the heart of her artistic exploration is storytelling, which she expresses through music, spoken and written word, as well as dance, film, and theater. She is particularly interested in themes of love, loss, connection, and identity.

"How do I connect with people whose life experiences are so different from mine? I talk to them, I see them, I dance, I sing, and I share a meal with them. By sharing my stories and inviting them into my world, most people I meet do the same. We connect through our senses and stories, and in doing so, we grow closer. I feel less alone, and I gain the gift of a new perspective. I see through different eyes, touch with different hands, hear, feel, discover, and perceive a world that is, in the end, both beautifully and tragically interconnected," says Ondiso.

The sculptures of Bronisław Chromy will be an integral part of the set design for the "Minimum Decay" performance. We sincerely thank the Chromy Gallery and Mrs. Grażyna Chromy-Rościszewska for kindly providing the artworks and for their generous support.

The event will be recorded (audio and video). By participating, you consent to the recording and use of your image for the organizer's documentation and promotional purposes. More: https://willadecjusza.pl/polityka-prywatnosci-1

The Arts in Exile

The Arts in Exile project is a residency program aimed at creating a creative platform for collaboration among artists who have experienced forced migration due to economic, political, security, or ethnic persecution reasons. The program offers a three-month residency at Villa Decius for three artists representing different fields of art: literature, visual arts, and music.

During the residency, the artists engage in both individual creative work and a collaborative dialogue with one another. By combining their personal experiences and various artistic disciplines, they will create a multimedia artistic event for the local audience. The thematic focus of their work includes cultural heritage, migration, minorities, community life, inclusion and exclusion, trauma, and artistic freedom.

In addition to Ondiso Madete, the residency program also includes Redina Qose, a visual artist from Albania, and Butrint Pasha, a director from Kosovo. They will present the results of their work at Villa Decius on March 30th and April 1st.
